Latitude vs. Wind Speed

In this graph, latitude is compared to wind speed, with wind speed being tracked in miles per hour. As it can be seen, wind speed tends towards the lower side of the graph, with a handful of strong values interspersed. While the relationship is not one to one, there is a visible trend, in that wind speed seems to be slower the closer one is to the equator, and higher the closer one is to the poles. Also, wind speeds appear to be faster in the northern hemisphere than in the southern hemisphere, though this may be due to the fact that several cities in the northern hemisphere recorded extremely high values.

While the relationship is not perfect, and data is spread thoroughly across the graph, there is a natural U-shape to the data which certainly indicates further data collection would be worthwhile, and might establish an interesting correlation between latitude and wind speed.
